Slam into your 3 opponents to knock them out of the ring! 4 opponents (human and/or computer) have got 45 seconds to shove, smash, grapple and counter their opponents out of the ring. It's first to three in this sumo-style slam-em-up, with a quickfire sudden death to settle a tie.
Sumo Slammers was born from watching people play games at events such as EGX 2017. People preferred crashing into their friends more than using the weapons and super powers we'd built up. So we took the slamming aspect and built a game that we knew people would enjoy. We're a team game jammers, so we are used to rapid prototyping. The first version was built in a week and shown at GaMaYo#13 to much acclaim. Now we're iterating on the prototype ready for new events in 2018. The game is being prepared for all markets, with an eye toward Switch and consoles in particular. We really want to encourage that pick-up-and-play aspect that games like Gang Beasts, Mario Kart and Starwhal do so well. We want this to be the game you break out at parties because it's easy to understand so everyone can jump in, but there is a skill and mastery to it that comes from experience and playtime.
As any sumo wrestler knows, your three key skills are your speed, strength, and your ability to grapple. In Sumo Slammers, you have the same three abilities:
- Boost into your opponents to slam them out of the arena
- Grapple your opponents to throw them out of your way
- Counter your opponents to out strength your attack
Sumo Slammers is built on the idea of making a fighting arcade game, along the lines of Smash Bros. and Gang Beasts, but boiled down to make it more accessible to all. Use physics to smash your opponents around the arena. Build up your charge, before using a variety of abilities to force your opponents out of the arena.
Got no mates? Play against bots! We have developed an artificial opponent to challenge even the most competitive players. Take on different levels of difficulty, as well different personalities. Fight against brawlers, grapplers and defenisve player from the comfort of your own home.
